Four Transported After Serious Accident North Of Orchard

Four people were transported following a two-vehicle accident north of Orchard just before noon Wednesday.

According to witnesses, at about 11:55 a.m. an eastbound SUV struck a north bound car, sending both vehicles into a bean field northeast of the intersection of 864th Road and 513th Ave, or one mile north of Orchard. Authorities on scene said one person may have been ejected, but the accident remains under investigation.

Four people, including both drivers, were transported to two hospitals - Avera Creighton Hospital and Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh - with unspecified injuries. Orchard Fire and Rescue responded to the accident and called for ambulances from both Ewing and Clearwater to transport victims. 

Air bags did deploy in at least one of the vehicles, but it is unknown at this time if seat belts were in use by the occupants, who have not been identified. 

The Antelope County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident and has requested assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol.
