Eight Orchard Students Attend Aspiring Youth Authors Festival

The Aspiring Young Authors Festival was held Saturday, April 7 at Wayne State College.  Sixty students attended from thirteen schools. Schools in attendance were Ewing, Grant Elementary in Norfolk, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lincoln Montessori in Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic, Orchard, O’Neill, Randolph, Verdigre, Wayne, Wheeler Central, Winside, and Woodland Park in Norfolk.

Eight students from Orchard attended: Carter Bergman, Sam Cheatum, Preston Hoke, Owen Jeffords. Carlee Livingston, Omar Mejia Moncado, Ruger Switzer, and Connor Thomson.

Mary Meinking-Chambers and Kristin Ganoung were the featured authors. All students met the authors and participated in break-out sessions with the authors as well as sharing a manuscript they had written themselves.

At the closing ceremony, all students were recognized for their writing talent with a special certificate.  

This was the 26th annual Aspiring Young Authors Festival. The goal is to continue bringing nationally known authors and Nebraska authors to our corner of Nebraska to encourage our youth to write for life.
