Clearwater-Orchard Hosts Its Annual Geography Bee Event

Clearwater-Orchard sixth through eighth grade students competed in the National Geographic Bee recently. 
The winner of the overall school competition, seventh grader Jacob Behnk, moves on to the next step of the competition, a qualifying test that will send up to 100 of the top scorers to the Nebraska State competition.

If Behnk qualifies for and wins the state championship, he will have a chance to win a $50,000 dollar scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands at the National competition in Washington D.C. 
Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories are participating in the 2017 National Geographic Bee. 

Former Orchard student, Justin Mosel, actually made it to the nationals twice in a row in 1996 and 97. He finished in third place nationally at the 1996 completion.

Clearwater-Orchard National Geographic Bee Results: 
The sixth grade winner was Faith king, second went to Levi Cronk and Ashton Williams and Hadley Cheatum tied for third.

Jacob Behnk won the seventh grade competition with Madison Melcher coming in second and Dillon Moser at third. Eighth grade saw Eli Thiele win, with Avery Cheatum and Morgan Ehrnhardt coming in second in third respectively.

Eli Thiele came in second and Avery Cheatum finished third behind Behnk in the overall school competition.
