A New Face To Three Local Methodist Churches

​A new face to the area can be found visiting local businesses, socializing with citizens, and preaching in Orchard, Ewing and Page: Pastor A.G. Turner. Turner, the new pastor at the Orchard United Methodist Church, took over the role of pastor after moving to the area from Parsons, Kansas, where he served as pastor at Faith United Methodist Church.

His first church service as pastor was Sunday, July 2. Turner came into ministry during his college years. He went to school to study Zoology but felt his calling towards seminary school during his senior year in college. He attended Fuller Theological Seminary in California, where he graduated. After spending three years in the Assemblies of God, Turner moved over into law, where he served as a business lawyer in the Los Angeles area. After his mother, who lived in the Parsons area, went into hospice care, Turner picked up and moved to Kansas. While there, he worked multiple jobs, including building cabinets. 

However, Turner said that he felt the call of the Lord bringing him back to the church.

“There was a lapse where I wasn’t really going anywhere, and I passed a place called Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons, and it was like the Lord said ‘That’s the next place you are going.’ I hadn’t gone to a Methodist Church before. That was something new, but when the spirit of God speaks you do what he says.”

After spending some time at Faith United Methodist in Parsons, Turner was commissioned as a Provisional Elder with the Methodist Church in June. After becoming an Elder, Turner was asked if he would take over for the Orchard, Ewing, and Page United Methodist Church as head pastor. Being here less than a week, Turner has not had a great deal of time to interact with the community. However, he says everyone has been very positive and outgoing after his arrival.

So far it seems like God had a pretty good plan here. I feel like I moved from a good place to another good place,” he said
