[email protected] Orchard held its Hunter Safety Class last week, with the first meeting taking place on Wednesday and the second on Saturday. The class was taught by Duane Risinger, Dennise Bridge, Bill Miller and Wes Prater. Risinger and Miller have been instructors since 1993. Wes Prater is an apprentice training to become a certified instructor and Bridge has been teaching for over 40 years. Students had to have a total of 11 hours of class time to receive their license, so they attended the class for three hours on Wednesday evening and nine hours on Saturday. Although that may seem like a long time, the instructors reminded students that when it comes to gun safety they felt the need to be thorough. This year, the class had fourteen students, 11 from Orchard and four from Elgin. Risinger says that every year the class has a large amount of participation, with over 20 students last year. |
