Neligh's firework display consistently ranks among the state's best each year, so it was no surprise that Monday night's finale was another great showing.
The Neligh Young Men's Club, in conjunction with the Neligh Volunteer Fire Department, puts on the fireworks each year. Dave Jacobsen, assistant fire chief, has been part of the fireworks crew for 22 years. Adam Mortensen and Mitch Pedersen are in charge of the display for the NYMC.
"Neligh has been doing this since 1973," Jacobsen said. "My dad (Van) was part of the first ones, so I'm a second generation with the fireworks. It's been a lot of fun."
Jacobsen said Monday's show consisted of about 1,000 shots in the air and another 200-plus on the ground. The electronic system included three locations for the fireworks. He said the fireworks were ordered about 6 months in advance but weren't set up until this weekend.
"It probably takes us 10-12 hours to get ready with all of the wiring," he said.
