The 4th annual Neligh-Oakdale 5K Color Run/Walk saw a jump in numbers as more than 75 participants got blasted with color in Neligh on Saturday morning.

Coordinator Becky Kerkman said this was an increase of nearly 20 people from last year's event, which serves as a fundraiser for the Neligh-Oakdale Track Complex.

"I was very pleased with the number of participants this year," Kerkman said. "And I am appreciative of the community members that helped run the color stations — we had the fire department, sheriff's department and EMTs helping out. It was great. We also have really awesome business sponsors and that is a huge part of our success."

Special awards were presented to:
Bree Kester of Neligh — youngest participant
Philip Strassler of Virginia — traveled the furthest
Laurel Miller — most experience

Hunter Bennett was the overall winner with the fastest course time of 16:02. He led the runners in the 10-12 grade division, which had the two overall fastest runners. Cole Belitz was second in 16:07 while Tristen Kittelson was third with 16:26.
