Sally Bohnenkamp, 96 of Elgin, NE, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 7:00 p.m. wake service.

Marcella Ann Schmitz, daughter of Tony and Mary (Thieman) Schmitz, was born November 23, 1919 at Petersburg, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and attended St. John’s School.

On June 26, 1946, Sally married Lawrence H. Bohnenkamp at Omaha, NE. They lived and farmed east of Elgin, NE where they were blessed with three daughters: Karen, Cherlyn and Mary Jo. Lawrence died of a heart attack in 1968, and Sally moved into town across from St. Boniface School, where she was currently living. She was a farmer’s wife, a homemaker, a caretaker for elderly and a custodian at St. Boniface School.

Sally was a member of St. Boniface Church, St. Boniface Altar Society and was devoted to delivering meals on wheels for the Elgin Community Center. She was an excellent cook, had a great sense of humor and was always prepared with a quick “come-back”.

She is survived by three daughters: Karen (Julio) Rodriguez of Sioux City, IA; Cherlyn “Cheri” (Richard) Schwager of Orchard, NE; Mary Jo (Patrick) Newburn of Sioux City, IA; five grandchildren: Jamie (Angela) Rodriguez, Jennifer (Steve) Koutz, Chris (Patty) Schwager, Terra Bentley Kimes (Aaron) and Jeremy Newburn; seven great-grandchildren: Connor and Chris Bentley, Cambree Kimes, Caleb and Morgan Rodriguez, Caleb Schwager and Easton Newburn; five step great-grandchildren: Mallory, Haeden, Dawson, Drake and Kaiya.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, brother Laurence Schmitz and special friend Bert Reestman.
