Funeral Services For Mildred Kinnan

Funeral services for Mildred D. Kinnan, age 94, of Oakdale, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at United Methodist Church in Oakdale. Pastor Bruce Phillips will officiate, with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden, Nebraska.

Mildred died Thursday, October 1, 2015, at her residence.

Mildred D. Kinnan, daughter of Henry and Helen (Emde) Suhr, was born September 12, 1921. Mildred graduated with the Tilden High School Class of 1939. On July 1, 1942, she was united in marriage to Louis “Dick” Kinnan at Lawton, Oklahoma. To this union, six children were born: Louis H. “Dick”, Bobbie, Bonnie, Lola, Cherrie, and Penny. They lived in and around Oakdale, Nebraska all their married life. 

Along with raising her family, she helped her husband on their farm. Mildred wallpapered many houses in Oakdale and filled in at the telephone office. She worked in the Tilden Nursing Home in the laundry department before she went to work at the Trailer Factory in Neligh.

Mildred raised a large garden and canned to help feed her family. She enjoyed crocheting doilies and making quilts. Mildred made a quilt for all her children and grandchildren. She loved to fish and would often be the one to catch the most fish. Mildred enjoyed bowling, golfing, and cooking. Many people always looked forward to eating some of her sour cream raisin pie. Mildred also enjoyed playing cards. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Oakdale and United Methodist Women.

Mildred is survived by her children, Louis H. (Lois) Kinnan of Gibbon, Nebraska, Bobbie Munson of Valdosta, Georgia, Bonnie Lindgren of Vergas, Minnesota, Lola (Mike) Kleinschrodt of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Cherrie Kinnan of Vergas, Minnesota, and Penny Buck of Oakdale, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin (Virginia) Suhr of Fremont, Nebraska and Norman Suhr of Ohio; sister, Elaine Varner of Keokuk, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Bernard Steinke of Fremont and Darrell (Shirley) Kinnan of Lincoln, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Arvid) Marks of Tilden, Nebraska and Kay Kinnan of Oakdale; and nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helen Suhr; husband, Louis “Dick”; siblings, Charlotte Steinke and Larraine Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Jones, Hershel and Arlys Faust, Ralph and Doris Kinnan, and Ivan “Ike” Kinnan; two grandchildren, Mark Kinnan and Carla Buck; one great-grandson, Ashton Rosner; and two sons-in-law, Chuck Lindgren and Tom Munson.
