![]() Marie A. Legate, 78 of Elgin, NE, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.huffmanlevander.com Marie A. Legate, daughter of Howard and Verona (Deitering) Thille, was born August 14, 1939 in Wheeler County, Nebraska. She attended school at Park Center and graduated from St. Boniface High School in 1957. On January 25, 1958, Marie married Norris Dean Legate at Omaha, NE. The couple lived in Omaha before moving to the Elgin community in 1962, where they raised their five children. Marie worked as a waitress and bartender at various bars and steakhouses in the area before owning and operating Gates Bar in Elgin from 1987 to 1999. She later worked at Thriftway Market in Neligh for several years. Marie was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. She enjoyed arrowhead hunting, cooking, country music, dancing, and reading. Marie is survived by three children: Roger (Rosemary) Legate of Neligh, NE; Marla (Jim) Schindler of Elgin, NE; Leaha (Shawn) Elliott of Bakersfield, CA; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother: Howard (Alene) Thille of The Dalles, OR; four sisters: Connie Coughlin of Sioux Falls, SD; Kathleen Hubka of Beatrice, NE; Joan Wentworth of San Jose, CA; Doris (Allan) Kluthe of Elgin, NE; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norris; two sons: Martin and Marvin; one grandson Garet Legate; and one brother Donald Thille. The family of Marie would like to express their sincere gratitude to AseraCare Hospice and their wonderful nurses Jennifer, Wendy and Esther, and a special Thank You to Darlene Warner for her special friendship in Marie’s time of need. |
