Funeral Services For Josephine Schrad

Josephine M. Schrad, 89 of Elgin, NE, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine M. Schrad, daughter of William and Margaret (Stoltz) Salber, was born March 2, 1926 at Elgin, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church, attended rural Antelope County grade school and graduated from St. Boniface School. She did housekeeping for several neighbors and worked at Parr’s Café as a baker/cook and later as a cook for the St. Boniface Lunch Program.

On March 27, 1951, Josephine married Alfred Schrad at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. They lived on a farm southwest of Elgin where they raised their six children: Doris, Ron, Linda, Susanne, Janice and Daniel. They farmed for over 50 years. Josephine was a member of the St. Boniface Altar Society and loved cooking for her family.

She is survived by her husband Alfred of Neligh; five children: Ronald (Carla) Schrad of Elgin; Linda (Randy) Mitchell of Elgin; Susanne (Elliott) Castillo of Lincoln; Janice (Scott) Clausen of Norfolk; Daniel (Sharon) Schrad of Omaha; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Vera (LaVern) Buelt of Hillsboro, OR; Gladys (Rollie) Reicks of Elgin; one sister-in-law: Betty Salber of Elgin; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Doris Ping, son-in-law Mike Ping; and two brothers: Delbert and Melvin Salber.
