Funeral Services For Iola Stout

Funeral services for Iola Stout, age 96, of Tilden, Nebraska will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden. John Petersen will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk, Nebraska, following the luncheon.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home in Tilden.

Iola died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at her residence.

Iola Frances Stout was born to Evan and Ida Shirreffs on February 25, 1920. She received her education at District 49, Oakdale Public School and graduated in 1937 from Tilden. She helped with the family’s farm and had a 4-H club. Iola attended Capital Beauty School in Omaha, worked for Babes Beauty Shop, and then had her own shop in Tilden. On October 14, 1945, she married George E. Stout at the Tilden Methodist Church. They lived in Tilden, Meadow Grove, and the current residence of 50 years in Tilden. Iola was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars 7603, and American Legion Auxiliary 170. She also touched many lives over the years with her seamstress skills.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida, in 1972; father, Evan, in 1981; husband, George, in 1990; son, Terry, in 1996; brother, Ervin, in 1997; sister, Nadine Christensen, in 2010; son-in-law, Edwin Benedict, in 2013; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Iola is survived by two sons, Edward (Karen) of Lantana, TX and Jerry (Judy) of Tilden; daughter, Deborah Benedict (Tom Pofahl) of Tilden; daughter-in-law, Marci Stout of Palm Desert, CA; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stout of Central City, 11 grandchildren Kari (Sam Smith) of Palm Desert, CA, Kelli (Zach Smith) of Plumas Lake, CA, step-grandson, Joe (Theresa) Jorge of Santee, CA, Tracy (Christy) Stout of Hooper, Jennifer Stout (Richard Farmer) and Shaina Stout of Tilden, Corey Benedict of Baltimore, MD, Jeffry Benedict and Brian Benedict of Tilden, Daniel Benedict of Oakdale, and step-granddaughter, Angela Benedict of Omaha; seven great grandchildren, Sawyer and Stella Smith, of Plumas Lake, CA, step-great grandsons, Kyle and Matthew Jorge, of Santee, CA, Cailey and Keira Stout, of Hooper; and Tristyn LaTurno of Lincoln; and many nephews, nieces, and friends.
