Funeral Services For Edward "Bud" Wanek

Funeral Services for Edward "Bud" Wanek age 97, of Neligh, Ne will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh, with Father Christopher Onuoha, Officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh. Visitation will be 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh. Bud passed away on July 13, 2016 at his home.

Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church.

Edward F. Wanek was born to Edward and Anna (Schmid) Wanek on March 5, 1919 at Neligh, Nebraska. He graduated from Neligh High School in 1937 and the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy in 1941. On May 16, 1942 he was united in marriage to Lois Chipman at Rockport, MO. Bud enlisted in the United States Navy on April 23, 1943 at Omaha, NE and was discharged on November 28, 1945 at St. Louis, MO. They celebrated 54 years together. Bud owned and operated Wanek Drug Co. in Neligh for 41 years having purchased it from his father in 1945. Wanek Pharmacy is still in operation after opening in 1917, making it one of the oldest businesses in Northeast Nebraska. Bud is a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh. He was involved in many organizations through the years, such as ESU #8 Board of Directors, Neligh Power Board, American Legion and VFW, National Association of Retail Druggists, Nebraska Retail Pharmacist Association, Neligh Chamber of Commerce, and Admiral in Nebraska Navy. He has been a loving example for his community and family.

Survived by his children: Carole Gooden of Denver, CO, Jim and wife, Cindy Wanek of Sandpoint, ID, Don Wanek of Lynch, NE, Diane Wanek of Omaha, NE, and Bob Wanek of Neligh, NE. 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Sister, Catherine Kelter of Hood River, OR.

​Preceded in death by his parents and wife (1997).
