Funeral Services Announced For Dorothy Larson

Graveside Services for Dorothy A. Larson, age 101 of Battle Creek, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at the McCoy Cemetery, rural Meadow Grove, Nebraska, with Thomas Hughes officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden, Nebraska.

Dorothy died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Dorothy Arelene (Higbee) Larson, daughter of Arthur and B. Audrey (Cloyd) Higbee, was born October 10, 1912, near Meadow Grove, Nebraska. Dorothy attended District #77 for one year, and then attended Meadow Grove High School where she graduated with the Class of 1931.

Upon completing high school, Dorothy taught school, helped care for people in their homes, and lived one year in Washington, DC with her brother, Ralph. Dorothy returned to Nebraska and was married to Allan W. Larson on February 9, 1939, at Neligh, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with four daughters: Louise, Lola, Carolyn, and Gayl. Dorothy and Allan raised their family on a farm they operated northeast of Meadow Grove. In 1984, the couple moved into Tilden, Nebraska. After Allan’s death on March 15, 1990, Dorothy continued to reside in her home until the fall of 2007 when she moved to the Golden Living Center in Tilden. When the nursing home in Tilden was closed in 2008, Dorothy moved to Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Louise (Francis) Giehler of Creighton, Nebraska, Lola (Jay) Titterington of Newman Grove, Nebraska, and Carolyn Morris of Brookfield, Missouri; son-in-law, James (Bobbi) Bolling of Neligh, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Izola Larson and DeEtte Whitwer; brother, Ralph Higbee; daughter, Gayl Bolling; granddaughter, Michelle Cornett; and son-in-law, Alvin Morris.
