The New Moon Community Theater group has signed on the dotted line and completed its purchase of Neligh's New Moon Theater on Wednesday afternoon. It was previously owned by Stacy Klabenes.
"We just signed at 2:30 p.m. today," said Melanie Miller, a member of the non-profit group.
This local group of individuals is committed to the acquisition, restoration and operation of the historic landmark theater on Main Street in Neligh. Their mission is "to enrich, educate and entertain our community by providing a range of arts and theater experiences in a beloved historic landmark."
Fundraising efforts are continuing and the group's first big event is scheduled for New Year's Eve at the Neligh American Legion. The event will feature a cocktail hour at 6:30 pm., prime rib dinner and dessert auction at 7:30 p.m., followed by comedy mentalist, the Amazing Arthur Fratelli, as well as music from VoiceHouse and a champagne toast.
Attendees are encouraged to buy a table, choose a movie, dress up for a movie theme and add a centerpiece. Prizes will be awarded. Tickets are $75 each or $560 for a table of eight and are available at the Neligh Economic Development Office by calling 887-4447.
"It's a new year for the New Moon!" exclaimed member Stephanie Wanek.
