Public Invited To Join Sacred Corn Planting Near Neligh Sunday

The public is invited to the 5th Annual Sacred Ponca Corn Planting near Neligh this Sunday.

Join Bold Nebraska and the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska this Sunday, June 10 at the Art and Helen Tanderup farm for the 5th Annual Sacred Ponca Corn Planting.

The fifth annual planting of Sacred Ponca Corn on land that crosses both the proposed path of Keystone XL, and the historic Ponca "Trail of Tears" will be held on Sunday, June 10.  In addition, a special event will take place during this year's planting day.​ Help plant corn with the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska (Chairman Larry Wright, Jr.), Camp Family and Ponca Nation of Oklahoma, Tanderup family, Nebraska landowners, water protectors and citizens.

• WHEN: Sunday, June 10, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • 12:00 p.m.: Greeting and potluck lunch (please bring a side dish or dessert to share if you're able!)
  • 1:00 p.m.: Depart to the field for special event and corn planting
  • 2:00 p.m.: Corn planting and group photo

What to bring + what to wear:

• Reusable bottle for drinking water.
• Lawn chairs for everyone in your party -- the Tanderups have a good number of chairs, but we want to make sure everyone has a seat for the potluck lunch. 
• Comfortable, closed-toe shoes for the farm (no flip-flops).
• Sunscreen and a hat.
