Psych Eval Ordered For Man Accused Of Sydney Loofe Murder

On Tuesday, a judge said the man accused of the murder of Neligh native Sydney Loofe will be evaluated by a psychiatrist to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.

Aubrey Trail, 52, who has been charged with first degree murder and improper disposal of human remains, requested the psychiatric evaluation last week.

Trail’s court-appointed attorney, Ben Murray, said the motion is not in response to anything in particular, he just wants to make sure the issue is addressed from the start.

The motion is not expected to push back the trial date, which was set in Saline County District Court last Thursday. Trail's jury trial will begin on Monday, June 17, 2019. He has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Bailey Boswell, who is also charged in Loofe's murder, still has no jury trial date. She has not entered a plea in the case since her attorney is challenging the death penalty.

They both face the charges of murder in the first degree, a class 1 or class 1A felony, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison (Class 1) or the death penalty (Class 1A); and improper disposal of human skeletal remains, a class IV felony, which carries up to 2 years in prison and a fine.
