Neligh-Oakdale To Resume School Thursday If Travel Ban Is Lifted

After a motion to start school on Wednesday failed, the Neligh-Oakdale School Board voted 3-2 to resume school Thursday, if the county travel ban is lifted. The board met for an emergency meeting at the school on Tuesday afternoon.

Board members Kenny Reinke, Scott Svatos and Kevin Hild voted in favor of the motion made by Hild. Ryan Koinzan and Cory Furstenau voted against.

When school is back in session, Supt. Scott Gregory said the buses will not run on the rural routes, possibly for several weeks. 

Koinzan and Furstenau both stated that they favored resuming classes on Wednesday, regardless of the travel ban put in place by the Antelope County Emergency Management Team.

Furstenau made a motion to begin school on Wednesday, which was seconded by Koinzan. It failed on a 3-2 vote, as Reinke, Svatos and Hild cast dissenting votes.

The superintendent said the last day for students was originally supposed to be May 16, but would likely get pushed back into the week of May 20 now.
