*Case details from Saline County court documents
Green light bulbs are still visible outside the childhood home of Sydney Loofe.

Her parents, George and Susie Loofe of Neligh, said in November that the lights would remain there until their missing daughter returned home. Following their lead, hundreds of lights in Antelope County shifted to green. Ribbons of hope were tied on trees and streetlights. Thousands of posters were plastered throughout the Midwest and beyond.

The three-week search made national headlines with the case linked to a Tinder date. Tragically, some of Loofe’s remains were found on December 4 in rural Clay County, ending hope of finding her alive.

Court documents released on Monday confirmed that by the time the search for Loofe began, she was already dead. The release coincided with charges filed against the two individuals previously labeled as persons of interest in her death — 51-year-old Aubrey Trail and 24-year-old Bailey Boswell.

Both have been charged with felony murder in the first degree and are facing either life in prison or the death penalty if convicted of killing 24-year-old Sydney Loofe.

On Tuesday at the Saline County Courthouse in Wilber, Aubrey Trail, 51, appeared first via video followed by Bailey Boswell, 24, also via video. Both appeared without counsel and were handcuffed and dressed in court-issued orange jump suits.

New Details Released
Many previously unconfirmed details were made public this week thanks to the court documents, including the video evidence of Boswell and Trail from a Lincoln Home Depot. The pair were seen purchasing tools and supplies official believe to have been used in the dismemberment and disposal of Loofe.  The video was from 10:35 a.m. the day Loofe was last seen alive.

“It should be noted that Sydney Loofe was alive at that time,” according to the documents.

Court records indicate that Loofe and Boswell exchanged nearly 150 messages between November 11-15.

The last message between the two was on the night she was last seen alive. The message was from Boswell to Loofe at 6:54 p.m. and said she was outside of Loofe’s residence.

The last activity with Loofe’s phone was an hour and a half later. At 8:31 p.m. the phone was reportedly used near a Wilber tower.
Boswell’s residency was at 621 W. 7th Street in Wilber in a basement apartment. According to the landlord that lived above the apartment, a strong odor of bleach emanated from the basement on Nov. 16-17.

Court documents mentioned that Trail admitted to killing Loofe in statements.

“He has acknowledged that he strangled her to death with an extension cord. He also stated that Boswell assisted in cleaning up the crime scene and assisted in disposing of Sydney’s body,” according to the Saline County Sheriff Alan Moore in the document.

Court appearance
The Loofe family did not attend Tuesday’s court appearance. The family is declining to comment at this time and requesting privacy.

The murder charge is alleged on or about November 15-16, 2017. The disposal charge allegedly occurred between November 15 and November 30, 2017.

Trail said he would be speaking to an attorney on Wednesday. The state then asked the judge to appoint standby counsel due to the charges.

“Given the seriousness of the charges, I’m going to appoint standby counsel,” the judge said.

She appointed Joseph Murray and Benjamin Murray to represent Trail as standby counsel.

Boswell requested an attorney be appointed. The judge appointed the Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy to represent her.

Neither individual was asked to enter a plea in the case, and both will be held without bond. Their cases were both continued to Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. for an election of preliminary hearing
