Letter To Editor: Family Responds To Brandt Sentencing

This letter is in reference to all the residents of Oakdale and surrounding areas who are casting “stones” at Megan Brandt for her behavior during her tenure as village clerk of Oakdale. Please take a hard look and ask yourselves if any of you are without fault and have never made a mistake!
 
First and foremost, we want to acknowledge that we DO NOT condone Megan’s actions in any way. She was wrong in doing what she did that caused undue hardship for the village of Oakdale. 
 
At Megan’s sentencing, we listened to the Oakdale Board President say that there was not enough money in the account to make the $25,000 lagoon payment for 2014 and, in thinking back, they were also short for the same payment the prior year. That’s when he started to take a hard look at the books. Really! After two years? Why not check the books in 2013?
 
 What about the trust the people of your village put in these elected board members?  Haven’t they violated your trust? There has to be checks and balances at all stages of the process! If I were a resident of Oakdale, I would be livid as to how inefficient the performance of the town fathers was  in this situation and demand a total recall vote for all board positions. Remember the old saying “It takes two to Tango”? Well, it apparently only takes one to hang.
 
In conclusion, we would like to reiterate that what Megan did was totally wrong  and she is paying the price for her actions! But, remind yourself of what  Jesus said to us all “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
