Sheriff: Elgin Pilot Uninjured In Antelope County Plane Crash

An Elgin pilot was uninjured in a plane crash west of Elgin on Friday evening, according to law enforcement. 

​The Antelope County Sheriff Department was contacted around 6:30 p.m. by a 911 caller of a plane down 7 miles west of Elgin, just south of the Midwest Flying Service Building.  Officers with the Antelope County Sheriff Department, Neligh Police Department and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene and believe the crash occurred sometime between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. 

A search was made at the scene for the pilot and no one was located. According to the Antelope County Sheriff's Office, Tim Grothe of rural Elgin is believed to be the pilot. Grothe's family members were contacted, and at 8:41 p.m., officers at the scene were advise that the pilot was ok.

The Antelope County Sheriff Office notified the Flight Standards District Office in Lincoln of the accident. Federal Aviation Investigators arrived at scene at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and conducted an investigation, which will be on going with local agencies and the FAA.

As of this time the pilot has not contacted local authorities or the FAA reference the accident.
