Elgin Public's Beloved 'Cinderella Stairs' Being Replaced

The curved cement staircase on the campus of Elgin Public School is currently in the process of being replaced, but these are not just ordinary steps to the community.

The "Cinderella Stairs" have become a beloved part of the school where countless class photos have been taken over the years. School officials believe that the stairs date back to when the high school building was built in 1924.

According to Superintendant, Dan Polk, "It was asked that the new stairs be built identical, so they don't lose any historical value."

The old stairs had been deteriorating with a lot of bad cracks and was becoming something of a safety hazard. Polk mentioned that there had been reports of people falling on the stairs and it was time to replace them.

The dirt has been curved in preparation for the new stairs to be poured, however at this time there is no definite date for when they will be completed.
