Elgin, PJ Students Named To Boys & Girls State

Elgin and Petersburg representatives were selected to attend Cornhusker Girls and Boys State in June.

Kaylee Martinsen of Elgin Public and Lauren Seier of Pope John were selected as Elgin delegates for Girls State. Maddie Schrage of Pope John was chosen as the Petersburg representative.

Martinsen is the daughter of Chad and Jamie Martinsen, Seier is the daughter of Craig and Virginia Seier of rural Petersburg, and Schrage is the daughter of Jerry and Tami Schrage.

Allyson Wemhoff of Elgin Public was chosen as the alternate. She is the daughter of Greg and Joyce Wemhoff of Elgin.  

Representing Elgin at Boys State will be Hunter Reestman of Elgin Public, and Kyle Schumacher and Ervin Dohmen, both of Pope John.

Reestman is the son of Ryan and Jessica Reestman, Schumacher is the son of Kevin and Lisa Schumacher, and Dohmen is the son of Angela Cuffe and Jeff Cuffe.

Girls and Boys State will be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, June 3-9. The programs are designed to provide youth with a better understanding of how city, county and state governments operate.
