Elgin Native To Be Ordained To Christian Ministry

Kathryn (Katie) Miller will be ordained to Christian Ministry in the United Church of Christ on Saturday, August 13 at 11:00 AM.

The ceremony is at Peace United Church of Christ, located at the corner of 4th and Antelope in Tilden. The public is invited to attend both the ceremony and the lunch following at the church hall.

Miller's family has a long standing history as ministers in that denomination. For her, being ordained in her home church is an honor.

"Its going to be a great time to celebrate where I came from," Miller said.

After working as an actress she found her passion for working with children and understanding the new generations way of life. She says seeing how they use social media helped her understand how she can help the church reach them.

"It's really about meeting them where they are," Miller explained And I believe social media is free reach."

Katie has been called to be the Associate Minister for Student and Family Life at First Central Congregational Church in Omaha, Nebraska, began her work there in June.

"Just with experiences at the seminary, I really just fell into this was entirely accidental, but a happy accident," Miller laughed. "But I am really really excited."

She graduated from the Chicago Theological Seminary in May with a Master’s of Divinity.

​Katie graduated from Elgin Public Schools in 2002 and the University of Nebraska in Kearney in 2006. Her parents are Patricia Miller and the late James Miller of Elgin. ​
