Elgin Gym Makeover: School Replacing Original Flooring

The Elgin High School Gym is getting a makeover. 

The district is replacing the gym floor that has been a part of the school for over 40 years. It has been an ongoing process since May.

The wood is currently being laid, but the floor is still in need of sanding, painting and varnishing, according to Superintendent Dan Polk. The crew is expected to complete the floor by mid-July. 

What is being replaced was the original flooring that was installed when the gym was built in 1974. Polk said the floor could not be sanded and refinished much more and also had very poor performance.

The Anderson Ladd company of Omaha is replacing the floor. The estimated cost of the completed floor is $85,000.
