Elgin FFA Chapter Grows Into New Greenhouse

​Flowers are starting to bloom and some are showing off their green thumbs and greenhouses are trying to keep up with the demand.
 
But one new green house in Elgin is creating more than just an environment for plants, this new green house, is run by students.
 
Elgin FFA chapter President Marie Meis cut the ribbon to the new green house Tuesday afternoon.
 
“We have all been watching, we have been a part of the process, and now we are actually able to work in it and so it is amazing to see the whole thing and now we get to sell the plants that we have grown.” Meis said.
 
 The plants in the new 18x24 foot green house were taken care of by the students and the business aspects are also taken care of by the students.
 
For the students it is more than just a love of plants. It is a way to help them pay for trips to conventions and even State FFA.
 
Meis says the green house would not have been possible without the support from the community. 
 
“We have been working hard for this and this is something that we really enjoy doing and we are really glad that people are here to support us.”
 
The green house is located on the south side of Elgin Public School. It will be open Wednesday and Thursday 2:30-6, and Friday 2-5.
