Elgin Dominates District Meet, Sending 14 To State Speech

Elgin had a dramatic district speech meet on Thursday with 14 state qualifiers from Elgin Public and one from Pope John. 

Both schools competed at Clearwater-Orchard in the Class D2-3 district.

Elgin dominated the Oral Interpretation of Drama, placing second and third with two teams to send 10 students in one category.

Finishing as district runner-up were Zoey Bergman, Jamie Hoefer, Taya Voborny, Alison Koenig and Hunter Thramer. Placing third were Dylan Widger, Travis Grosserode, Kenneth Bush, Alois Warner and Christopher Bush. 

Individually, Ivy Prater qualified with a runner-up finish in Entertainment Speaking and joined Ethan Fischer in Duet Acting to win the district championship. Katie Polk finished second in Serious Interpretation of Prose Literature.

Pope John's Casey Pelster was third in Oral Interpretation of Poetry.

The Class D2 state meet will be Friday, March 28, at the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus, beginning at 8 a.m.
