Elgin Community Plans Three Days Of Events For Q125

The Elgin community is planning three fun-filled days of activities for its Q125 celebration, June 20-22.

"Celebrating 125 Years of Faith, Family & Friends" is the theme for the celebration.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at The Moving Wall on Thursday at 5 p.m. A half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., The Moving Wall will be set up in the lot behind the Elgin Public Library. A reception will be held at the KC Hall immediately following the ceremonies. The Moving Wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day through Sunday, June 22. Additional events planned for the duration of the Q125 celebration, Friday-Sunday, are the Mountain Men Muzzle Loaders at the CVA lot on North Street; VFW Military Display at the Veterans Club, downtown Elgin; Quilt/Art Show in the St. Boniface Church basement, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday; Q125 Vintage Bridal Gown Display at Snider Memorial Funeral Home, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday; Richard's Amusements carnival rides and games, beginning at 4 p.m. each day.

Friday, June 20
7-10 a.m. - Breakfast at the Elgin United Methodist Church
8:30 a.m. - Flag dedication at West Cedar Valley/St. Boniface cemeteries
9 a.m. - Cemetery walk at West Cedar Valley/St. Boniface cemeteries
10-11 a.m. - Kid's Zone at Pope John Central Catholic High School
10 a.m.-3 p.m. - Lion's Club Health Screening trailer at Jonny Dodge car lot, Elgin
11 a.m. - "Bank robbery" at 2nd and Pine streets
12 p.m. - Lunches at the Elgin KC Hall and Elgin Community Center
1 p.m. - Q125 Vintage Clothing Style Show in the Elgin Public School Gym
2:30 p.m. - Water fights hosted by the Elgin Fire Department
3:30 p.m. - Air rifle shooting contest at Jonny Dodge
4:30 p.m. - Trail Riders arrive in Elgin
4:30-7 p.m. - Supper at Elgin KC Hall, served by St. Boniface Altar Society
6:30 p.m. - Ceremony: beard contest, Elgin calendar men and a surprise appearance at Q125 Grand Central Station 
8 p.m. - Dueling Pianos, hosted by Elgin Ko-Ed Group, at Q125 Grand Central Station 


Saturday, June 21
7-10 a.m. - Breakfast at the Elgin United Methodist Church
7:30 a.m. - 2 or 5 mile Fun Run/Walk, registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Elgin City Park. Race begins at 8 a.m., $15 entry fee.
 9 a.m. - "Bank Roberry" at 2nd and Pine streets
9:30 a.m. - Tractor Drive, starts at Beckman Lumber
10 a.m. - Kiddie Parade at Elgin City Park
11 a.m.-3 p.m. - Inflatables at the Elgin City Park, hosted by Young-N-Lively group. Schwan's treats will be sold.
1 p.m. - Texting competition at the Elgin City Park
1 p.m. - Pie and ice cream social at the Elgin Community Center
2 p.m. - The Hat Tree Lady at the Elgin United Methodist Church
2:30 p.m. - "Ball Game," featuring Hula Hotties, Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader wannabees, Beauty Pageant Rejects at the baseball field
3:30 p.m. - Antique Tractor Display at the Elgin Livestock Market
5 p.m. - Beer garden opens at Q125 Central Station
6:30 p.m. - Alumni banquets at Elgin Public Gym and Elgin KC Hall
9 p.m.-1 a.m. - Street dance, featuring live music by "The Rude Band," at the Q125 Central Station 

Sunday, June 22
7 a.m. - Fly-in breakfast at Koinzan Airport
POSTPONED - Car, pickup and motorcycle show near The Station
LOCATION MOVED - 9:30 a.m. - Celebration of faith moved to the Elgin Public High School Gym
12 p.m. - Air show at Koinzan Airport
1 p.m. - Grand Parade, beginning at the Elgin football field (register by 11 a.m.)
4:30 p.m. - "Sheltered Reality," a choreographed drumming group, will perform in the Elgin Public Gym
5 p.m. - Variety Show in Elgin Public Gym
5:30 p.m. - Community BBQ at Q125 Central Station, hosted by Elgin Community Foundation, free-will offering
7:30 p.m. - Closing ceremonies, time capsule and train auction at Q125 Central Station
8 p.m. - Music by Dave Merkel and beer garden at Q125 Central Station, sponsored by the Elgin Fire Department
10 p.m. - Fireworks display, sponsored by the Elgin Fire Department
