Willats Guaranteed Medal At State; Olivan Ends Season

Shane Willats will wear a medal home from the Class D state wrestling tournament, but it's not clear which one the Cyclone will vye for on Saturday.

Willats lost his first match of the tournament on Friday against undefeated Kris Rasmussen of Amherst, who finished third last year. Rasmussen earned the 11-9 decision at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.

Willats will wrestle Saturday against Quinten Chancellor of Medicine Valley to determine his placement.

Clearwater-Orchard sophomore Alex Olivan ended his season with a pin at 1:40 against Clay Seifer of Stapleton-McPherson County. Olivan wraps up the year as one of the best eight wrestlers at 195 pounds in Class D.
