Smith Shoots 91 Percent As Cyclones Top Elkhorn Valley

Jagger Smith hit a staggering 91 percent from the field - missing just one shot all night - as Clearwater-Orchard topped Elkhorn Valley on Tuesday.

Smith shot 10-of-11 from the field for 20 points to lead the Cyclones to an 84-27 win over Elkhorn Valley.

Andy Kerkman led all scorers with 29 points. The senior also pulled down 10 rebounds. Ten Cyclones found the scoring column in the win.

Elkhorn Valley was led by Kalen Dittrich with 10 points. 

​In the girls game, Elkhorn Valley rallied for a 54-50 win over the Cyclones.

Both teams matched one another basket for basket in the first half as the Falcons led 35-30 at intermission. Clearwater-Orchard shut down the Falcons in the third, outscoring Elkhorn Valley 14-6 to take the lead. Thanks to aggressive play, both teams struggled shooting in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons knotted the score at 50 with 18 seconds in the game. Junior Liz Osborne got a hand on an Cyclone pass and took it in for a left-handed layup to give Elkhorn Valley a two-point advantage with 9.8 seconds left.

The Cyclones were called for traveling on the next possession, giving the Falcons the ball back with 6 seconds left. The Falcons sunk another basket at the buzzer to seal the four-point win. 

Hannah Ollendick led all scorers with 18 points and hit a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Amber Miller added 12 more while Alyssa Rood scored 10 points for the Falcons. Elkhorn Valley outrebounded the Cyclones 25-16. 

Whitney Rittscher led the Cyclones with 14 points while Kylie Thiele and Mallory Cooper added another 11 and 10 points, respectively.
