O-C Boys, Girls Struggle With Shooting In Home Opener

It was a rough home-opener for the boys and girls of the Clearwater-Orchard basketball squads Friday against Chambers/Wheeler Central.

The girls started off the night against the Renegades with a 59-35 loss. They struggled in the first quarter to just four points while allowing 16 and were unable to make up for lost ground. The Cyclones were only able to find the bottom of the basket on 27 percent of their shots.

Kinzly Macke led the Cyclones on the night with 15 points on six of 12 shooting. She pulled in eight rebounds, as did teammate Allee Snider. 

In the boys game, turnovers and poor shooting doomed Clearwater-Orchard to a 56-33 loss to the Renegades. As a team, the Cyclones shot just 36 percent from the floor and gave up 24 turnovers.

Ryan Wilhelm led the Cyclones in scoring on the night, shooting eight for 12 for 16 points. Travis Kerkman added six for Clearwater-Orchard. 

Both boys and girls now take the weekend to regroup before they host Riverside Tuesday night in search of their first wins of the year.
