Meet The 2017 Clearwater Rodeo Queen Title Finalists

Four young women will compete for the 2017 Clearwater Rodeo Queen title on Friday - Brooklyn Behmer, Macy Zentner, Sadie Smutny, and Catelyn Hall.

The queen will be crowned Friday, June 23, at the rodeo arena in Clearwater. 

Brooklyn Behmer

Brooklyn Behmer is the daughter of Nate and Tara Behmer of Hoskins, NE. 

Behmer has been around horses all of her life growing up on the family farm. She started competing in Open Horse shows at the age of 3. 

She is currently involved in the 4-H Horse Program, which has allowed her to participate in the Nebraska State Horse Show in barrels, pole bending, reining, pony pleasure, ranch horse pleasure, and advanced horsemanship. 

Behmer also shows cattle in 4-H and the Junior Nebraska Cattleman's and Progress shows. She is the current point leader for Chianina Breeding Heifers in the Junior Nebraska Cattleman's Point Standings
She is currently involved in volleyball, basketball, and track at Winside High School. She also volunteers at the Norfolk Rescue Mission and participates in community service in Winside. Outside of school and volunteer activities, Behmer enjoys family camping trips, demolition derbies, and dirt track car races.

Behmer plans to attend college and become a dermatologist in the future.

Macy Zentner

Macy Zentner is the daughter of Mark and Tracy Zentner of Cedar Rapids, NE.

Zentner was gifted with her first horse at the age of 5. After that, she started competing in 4-H shows. She is now very competitive in barrel poles.

Zentner currently trains and sells colts and barrel horses. She also works at the Countryside Veterinary Clinic in Fullerton and the Cedar Rapids Community Pool. She is active in both 4-H and her FFA chapter. Through FFA, she had received her Discovery, Greenhand, and Chapter Degrees. She also was awarded the Star Greenhand with her business, Pony Pastries. She also participates on the Cross Country team and the Dance Team.

After graduating from high school, she hopes to attend Pre-Veterinary school, followed by Veterinary school. With her college education completed, Zentner plans to return to Cedar Rapids and start her own Equine Veterinary Practice.

Sadie Smutny

Sadie Smutny is the daughter of Rick and Sonét Smutny of Meadow Grove, NE.

​She has been riding horses for eight years and has owned her horse for four years. 

Smutny is currently involved in her local 4-H chapter. She has served as secretary for the chapter for the past three years. This year, she was elected to hold the office of vice president of the club. She is also a member of the Antelope County 4-H Committee. 

This year, she is starting her first colt. She hopes it will giver her a better understanding of the foundation of a horse and everything starts.
Smutny plans on becoming a veterinarian after the completion of her education, 

Catelyn Hall

Catelyn Hall is the daughter of Doug and Luan Hall of Neligh, NE.

Hall grew up on her family farm near Brunswick, NE, where her interest in horses started at a young age.

​Hall graduated from Plainview High School in 2014. She is currently studying at South Dakota State University where she majors in Animal Science with minors in Equine Studies, Ag Business, and Ag Marketing.

She currently competes on the equestrian team at SDSU. She  will be a team captain for the 2017-2018 school year. 

Hall says that she hopes to continue showing cutting and reining horses after graduation.

She has earned many achievements in previous competitions. She was a qualifier in Girls Cutting in the 2014 National High School Rodeo Finals. She was crowned Champion in the Green Reiner Level 2 Class at the 2016 NRHA Derby Show. She was Champion in the 15,000 Amateur Class at the 2016 CHAN Year End competition, and Champion in the 15,000 Amateur Class at the 2016 NCHA Area 7 competition.
