Man Pleads No Contest In Motor Vehicle Death Of Steskal

An O'Neill man pleaded no contest Wednesday to motor vehicle homicide and careless driving.

On March 1, Zachary Salers, 25, of O'Neill attempted to pass several vehicles on Hwy. 275 west of Clearwater when his pickup collided head-on with an eastbound car driven by Sharon Steskal, 70, of Clearwater. Steskal died at the scene. Salers and his passenger, Carrie Lynn Mulford, 21, of Hampton, Iowa were both transported to the hospital in O'Neill.

Salers appeared in Antelope County Court on Wednesday and was represented by Pat Carney, public defender. He pleaded no contest to motor vehicle homicide, a class I misdemeanor, and careless driving, an infraction. Salers was adjudged guilty of both charges and Judge Donna Farrell Taylor ordered a full presentence investigation. His sentencing was set for August 20 at 11 a.m. in Antelope County Court.
