The Lady Cyclones started off the Niobrara Valley Conference track meet with an impressive performance in the 4x800 relay.

Kylie Thiele, Kinzly Macke, Mallory Cooper and Abbey Kester earned second place with their time of 10:26.5 on Saturday in Atkinson. This was their fastest time of the season and a new school record.

“It was a great race," Coach Shannon Schumacher said. "St. Mary’s is the state leader in the 4x800, and we went out with a goal of beating them. We led the race for almost ¾ of it, but couldn't quite hold on. Because the race was so close, we bettered our time by almost 21 seconds, and now have the number two time in the state. You can’t ask for much more than that.”

Along with this performance, Schumacher said there were many other personal records and Cyclone records set at the NVC meet. Another relay team, the 4x100, set a school record with their time of 52.7 seconds. Team members were Ryann Ickes, Kinzly Macke, Kylie Thiele and Hannah Rittscher. Sierra Schroeder placed fifth in the triple jump and set a new school record with her jump of 32 feet, 3.75 inches. Kylie Thiele also broke the school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61 seconds.

The girl's team placed fourth in the conference meet and the boys ended in a tie for ninth place.
