Grand Jury Called In Death Along Hwy 275 Near Clearwater

The death of a Norfolk man last January in Antelope County will be investigated by a grand jury.

Antelope County Attorney Joe Abler said Angel Sanchez, 22 of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene just west of Clearwater on Jan. 9 on Highway 275 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Just prior, Nebraska State Patrol Dispatch Center received a report of a hit and run with a NDOR snowplow near Neligh.  A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper observed a vehicle matching the description from the accident stopped on the side of Highway 275 just west of Clearwater.  The Trooper stopped behind the vehicle to check on the occupant, according to Abler.

Sanchez was the only occupant and exited the vehicle from the passenger door.  The State Trooper made brief contact with Sanchez before his death, Abler said.

District Judge Mark Johnson called for the grand jury investigation.
