Filsinger Wins Two Outstanding Merit Awards At Art Show

A Clearwater-Orchard senior was honored with two outstanding merit ribbons at the ESU #8 art show this week.

Emily Filsinger earned the recognition for her pencil drawing, titled "Leaf" and her computer art/video, titled "Saving the Moto Crosser."

This isn't the first time her realistic depiction of a leaf has captured the attention of art judges. Filsinger received a judges' merit and the best of show for the piece at the recent Keya Paha art show. 

"Saving the Moto Crosser," also received a judges' merit at that show. This power point is a slide show featuring a total of 456 photos. Each slide is one picture, but when you combine the photos into a slide show, they become a video. She took a photo, moved the legos, and then took another photo, until the project was complete.

Her art instructor is Shannon Schumacher.

The annual art show is being held in the new 4-H exhibition building at the Antelope County Fairgrounds in Neligh. The public is invited to view the display until 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Approximately 650 pieces of artwork are on display from 13 area schools, including all of the Antelope County schools.

The show was judged by Deb Fonder, a retired art teacher from Norfolk and Mike Hassler, a Wakefield art instructor.
