Cyclones Edge Falcons In Evenly Matched, Three-Set Thriller

Just how even are Clearwater-Orchard and Elkhorn Valley? It took three sets - two of which went extra points - to declare a winner Thursday night.

With both teams clad in pink in support of breast cancer awareness at the Clearwater-Orchard triangular, the Cyclones topped Elkhorn Valley 30-28, 26-24, 25-23 to complete the sweep. Clearwater-Orchard also defeated West Holt 25-13, 16-24. In the middle match, Elkhorn Valley topped West Holt 25,21, 25-17.

In the three-set thriller between OC and Elkhorn Valley, the Cyclones used a balanced attack to keep the Falcons on their toes. Kinzly Macke put down eight kills to lead Clearwater-Orchard while JoCee Johnston and Alexis Pokorny each had five kills. Allee Snider added another four.

Johnston had four solo blocks, and Kylie Thiele picked up 17 digs. Peyton Clifton put up 17 set assists in the win.

No stats are available for Elkhorn Valley.

Against West Holt, the Cyclones had another balanced attack. Johnston led the way with six kills while Pokorny and Macke added five each. Pokorny made the net tough with three solo blocks while Thile kept the Cyclones in play with 14 digs. Clifton and Grace Rittscher proved to be a good setting combination with 11 and eight assists, respectively.

Clearwater-Orchard improves to 13-10 with the wins and will be off until Tuesday, Oct. 18, when the Cyclones travel to St. Mary's for a triangular. Also playing will be Plainview.

Elkhorn Valley is now 12-9 and will take on O'Neill on Monday, Oct. 17.
