Clearwater-Orchard Educators Recognize ACN Owner

The Clearwater-Orchard Educators’ Association (OCEA) recognized the owner of the Antelope County News as this quarter's "Friend of Education."

Carrie Pitzer was honored for her dedicated service to the Cyclones.

"Carrie, along with Antelope County News, does a fantastic job covering the events that happen and recognizing the people involved at Clearwater-Orchard Schools, Thank you for all you do," the release stated.

​Pitzer is a 1997 graduate of Orchard Public Schools. After receiving her journalism degree from Midland Lutheran College, she spent 15 years at the Norfolk Daily News. In January 2014, Pitzer launched the Antelope County News website as a way to help all local communities share their news and events digitally with residents in the county.

"This is a special recognition from the educators at Clearwater-Orchard and means a lot to me," Pitzer said. "We work very hard to not only inform Antelope County residents of school and community activities, but we also enjoy promoting students' efforts and accomplishments. Our local schools are doing great things, and we're proud to use our digital presence to recognize their efforts."

Pitzer said her interest in journalism blossomed in high school, and she received much encouragement from her English teacher Cathy Cooper, along with Janice Mosel, who at the time owned the Orchard News. Pitzer said she doubts either fully recognize how instrumental and influential they have been over the years.

"The foundation of my writing ability comes from Cathy, and my understanding of the importance of local media comes from Janice and the Orchard News. While growing up there, I looked at the newspaper every week, and it still remains vital to the community," Pitzer said. "I appreciate the education I received and the longtime support of the Clearwater-Orchard community."
