Clearwater Board Votes Upgrades and Policy Changes

The Clearwater Advisory Board discussed maintenance upgrades and policy changes during its monthly meeting on Monday.

The board considered the school's maintenance list and decided to make a few upgrades including repairing the roof, installing new floors and stalls for the bathrooms, replacing the multi-purpose door, wrapping the pipes and changing the road sign to Clearwater Public School. The bids totaled $25,648.55 and was unanimously passed. The keyless entry door system that was passed in May for $11,000 will be put on hold until maintenance upgrades are finished. However, the key entry for the multipurpose door and weight room for $4,800 will be put in.

“I think we should just wait and see where we are at with everything else,” said Amy Thiele, president of the board.

​Upgrading policies in the handbook was also a hot topic. The grading scale was changed to a college level scale where 60 and above is passing. The attendance policy was also discussed with changes being made. Now, a student is allowed up to four total days of absences, including medical absences. Medical notes no longer are considered excused absences. The write up of the attendance policy will be done by the next meeting and approved.

The board also made a motion to recommend a change to the Unified board regarding the attendance policy. They recommend changing the policy from missing nine periods to seven periods in one class before having to submit a licensed doctor’s note.
