Several sentences of jail time were handed down in Antelope County District Court on Wednesday.

Joshua Curren was sentenced to 321 days in jail, and Jacob Thramer was given 225 days in jail.

Curren was charged with third degree assault, second degree trespassing, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest.

Acting Antelope County Attorney Joe Smith said that Curren got a “substantial break” due to his bad attitude and bad character during the incident that occurred on May 30.

According to Antelope Couty Sheriff Bob Moore, Curren, 24 of Orchard and formerly of Washington, attempted to enter a home near Third and Rusk Street in Orchard just after 10 p.m. that Monday night. The female occupant alerted friends who tried to subdue Curren, but Moore said the subject then assaulted those individuals.

Moore said Curren resisted arrest and was eventually subdued by law enforcement after some time.

Curren’s court appointed attorney Pat Carney said that his client only recalled having only four beers before the incident, but did not remember the events. Carney also brought up Currens childhood.

“He didn’t have a normal childhood, no fault of his own,” Carney said about Curren bouncing around to different foster homes.

Carney presented the idea that instead of jail time Curren be sentenced on probation.

Curren also asked Judge Mark Johnson to consider probation as a option because he has a child on the way. Curren said that he thought probation could help him more than jail.

But Judge Johnson disagreed.

"Your history is not extensive, but it is consistent," Johnson said about Curren's previous assaulting an officer charge.

Curren was given 180 days in jail for third degree assault and trespassing, and 180 days for obstruction of an officer and resisting arrest. His sentencing will run concurrently and he will pay $145 in court costs

Jacob Thramer was charged with third degree assault, criminal mischief and disturbing the peace. Thramer pled guilty to all counts from the incident that occurred on September 6 in which he said was “drunken disorderly” actions.

“All threats made that day were not legitimate threats,” Thramer said. “It was the alcohol talking.”

He was given 180 days in jail for the assault charge, 30 days for criminal mischief, and 15 days for disturbing the peace and will be served consecutively. Thramer also has $155 in court costs.
