Antelope County 4-Hers Participate In Horse Stampede

Five Antelope County 4-H’ers tested their knowledge recently on their horse projects by participating in the 4-H Horse Stampede.

Held at the Animal Science Complex on UNL’s East Campus, this event provided youth a chance to participate in a variety of contests that do not require animals, but allowed youth to learn more about the horse project. Local participants were Sadie Smutny, Alison Stineman, Ashleigh Nelson, Trevin Hanson, Madison Schaffer.

There were 5 contests that included: demonstrations (a presentation where youth demonstrate how to complete a task or relate to the care of horses), photography and art contests, public speaking, and horse quiz bowl. 

Antelope County 4-H was well represented! In the demonstration contest, Sadie Smutny received a blue with her demonstration, “The Parts of a Western Saddle.” Alison Stineman received a purple with her speech, “Thrush: How Lame!” and Madison Schaffer received a red with her speech, “Horse Behavior.”

In the Photography contest, Ashleigh Nelson, Trevin Hanson, and Madison Schaffer all earned a purple ribbon. Ashleigh Nelson’s photography exhibit earned Champion Junior Photography. All five Antelope County 4-H’ers came together to participate in the Horse Quiz Bowl and they earned a blue ribbon together. 

Trevin Hanson also participated in the 4-H Companion Animal Challenge that was held that same day at the Animal Science Complex. This event provided youth a chance to participate in a variety of contests that allowed youth to learn more about their companion animal projects.

There were 5 contests demonstrations, photography and art contests, dog skill-a-thon, and a dog quiz bowl. Trevin Hanson competed in the photography contest. He entered two photos that earned him a blue and a purple ribbon. His purple photograph earned him the title of Reserve Junior Champion.
