Basketball season tipped off for Clearwater-Orchard on Thursday as the Cyclones boys and girls each came away with big wins.
St. Mary's came to town. The night started off with the O-C girls taking home a 51-39 win. The game was close for the first two quarters with the Cyclones holding a 16-13 lead at the break. However, a 22-point third quarter boosted O-C to the win.
Grace Rittscher led the charge for the Cyclones, putting up 11 points and pulling down eight rebounds. Brooklynn Chipps added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting and eight more boards. Taylor Sanne added nine points and eight rebounds as well.
Defensively, the Cyclones got seven steals each from Sanne and Julia Thiele. As a team, O-C finished with 29 total steals.
In the boys game, O-C used a 29-24 halftime lead to vault them to a 54-38 victory over the Cardinals.
Ryan Wilhelm had a huge opening night, putting down 27 points on 63 percent shooting. Liam Odell added 10 points and Jacob Long accounted for eight. Long and Odell each pulled down nine rebounds, Blake Hoke had eight and Wilhelm had seven. Chris Kester dished out five assists while pacing the offense.
