The Neligh Fire Department responded to a call at the NPPD substation south of town just before 7 a.m. Friday morning.
Several transformers were visibly black in the middle of the substation, located about a half mile south of the Neligh Mill at the intersection of 848th Road and 524th Ave.
"It appears a couple of transformers burned up," First Captain Jason Krebs said. "Some of the fuses look like they burned off."
The firefighters did not approach the substation and no fire was visible at the time. The fire department left the scene around 7:30 a.m. and NPPD arrived shortly after to assess the situation and begin repair.
"I don't know how it will effect power at this time, but there doesn't appear to be a fire threat," Krebs said.
The Neligh Police Department also responded.
