An economic partnership between Neligh and Clearwater is moving closer to fruition.
Neligh Economic Development Director Greg Ptacek told the Neligh City Council on Tuesday night that both economic development boards had reviewed the agreement and are now fine tuning it. They hope to have a finalized plan for the April City Council meeting.
“This is an incredible opportunity for both Neligh and Clearwater,” Ptacek said. "While Neligh is the county seat and major retail hub, our economy is dependent on the surrounding communities for support. If we can play a part in encouraging Clearwater’s economic growth, that will lead to more opportunities for Neligh and all of Antelope County.”
The agreement would not only involve Neligh and Clearwater economic development boards, but also the Neligh Chamber of Commerce. Ptacek said the plan will detail what services the Neligh office will provide to Clearwater economic development and the Neligh Chamber, as well as the hours it would service annually.
"We’re hoping the result of this agreement will lead to the hiring of a part-time assistant director for the economic development office to serve Neligh and Clearwater economic development, as well as the Neligh Chamber of Commerce,” Ptacek said.
The full job description, services and hourly contract will be finalized within the coming weeks. Ptacek said the individual will be vital to the communities and partner in the economic effort, as well as instrumental with the Neligh Chamber.
