For years, the Neligh Young Men's Club, or NYMC, has hosted a street dance to celebrate the halfway point of Old Mill Days. This year that will be replaced by a new party.
Party in the Park will make its debut Sunday, July 3 at the Riverside Park Pavilion in Neligh. The event is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. and will go until midnight. NYMC will be on hand to sell drink tickets and will also be serving pulled pork sandwiches and chips at the cost of two drink tickets. The event is open to all ages and those people 21 years of age or older will get wristbands if they wish to drink. Drink tickets will be sold at $3 each or $20 for 7 tickets. The event is set to be a new fundraiser for the NYMC.
"It's a fundraiser for us," said Colten Marsh, NYMC member and chairman of the event. "We use that to put on our fireworks shows and all our other events."
The event came about because the club decided they wanted to try something different for the annual celebration after doing the street dance for so long.
"We tried to find something that people could be excited about, something new and different," said Marsh.
There are a few distinct differences between the new Party in the Park event and the former street dance the club put on. Instead of a live band, the NYMC has hired out a DJ to provide good music for the partygoers. Also, the club will be setting up various drinking games for the adults to enjoy. The final difference between this event and the street dance is that there will be no gate fees. The only cost for those in attendance will be the drink tickets.
The Party in the Park marks the halfway point for an Old Mill Days that will also include events such as the Color Run and Hole in One Contest on Saturday, a Pancake Feed and Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, and the Grand Parade and Fireworks Show on Monday.
