Twenty-eight students from across the area are participating in a two-day hunter safety class in preparation for the fall season.
Nebraska Game and Parks Certified Instructor Wade Pitzer is again teaching the two-day class, which started on Saturday and will wrap up this Saturday. The class is held at the Neligh Public Library and will also consist of time at the Antelope County Shooter’s Club range on the final day.
“While the class is open to anyone 11 or older, it’s great to see so many youth go through the training,” Pitzer said. “Hunting is a very popular sport, and it’s important for these young hunters to know the proper way to handle a firearm and use one safely.”
Pitzer has taught the class for several years and said the students will be tested on the final day and must pass for certification. The class is free and sponsored by the Nebraska Game & Parks, Neligh Young Mens Club and Antelope County Shooter’s Club.
