Novemberfest is back and will be bigger than ever.
The wine and beer tasting event was introduced last year and such a huge hit that the Neligh Young Men’s Club is brining it back for a second year.
"The response has been great. We sold a little more than 300 tickets, and the community really supported us," said Steve Simonsen, event organizer.
Novemberfest will be on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Neligh Legion from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the Nebraska football game shown on a projector afterward. Tickets are just $20 and cover all of the beer and wine testing for those three hours, as well as appetizers.
Due to the popularity, there will be 400 tickets sold this year, an increase from the 300 last year.
Simonsen said tickets are now on sale at Antelope County Chiropractic, Thriftway Market in Neligh, Antelope County News and the Neligh Chamber of Commerce. He anticipates tickets selling out, as they did last year.
Like last year, all of the beer and wine served at the event was from Nebraska-based wineries and breweries. Simonsen said organizers want to make the event unique and looked to only Nebraska companies for the tasting.
Novemberfest will also feature a home brewery competition where locals can show of their talent of homemade wine or beer. The home brews will not be available to anyone other than the judges due to state law.
With wall to wall people smiling ear to ear throughout the night, it's no surprise the Neligh Young Men's Club decided to make Novemberfest an annual event.
"I never imagined it would go so well," Simonsen said. "Over 300 tickets the first time is exciting. I hope this year is even better.”
