Jaxon Nelson received a very warm welcome into Neligh on Friday morning. The 7-year-old, who is moving to Neligh from Fort Calhoun this summer, won a new bicycle at the annual Bike Rodeo.
How excited was he? Jaxon was jumping up and down in excitement.
Jaxon, who is the son of Kraig and Vanessa Nelson, was one of about 60 youth in attendance on Friday morning at the Neligh Library. Kraig Nelson recently joined the Neligh Police Department and will begin his first tour next week.
The Neligh Young Men's Club and Midwest Medical Transport fitted helmets at the event, making sure every child attending was either wearing a helmet or received a free helmet. About 40 helmets were distributed.
The helmets were provided through donations and grants received by the Neligh Young Men's Club. Those wanting to donate to the bike fund can do so through the club, which is tax deductible.
Along with the free helmets, there was also and obstacle course for children to practice, as well as a educational video on safety. Both were ran by the Neligh Police Department.
After the bike drawing, a drawing was also held for an Antelope County New t-shirt, which was won by Mason McKillip.
