The Neligh Police Department has a newly certified officer.
Sam Funk graduated from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island on Friday, February 21 as part of the 187th basic class.

The City of Neligh hired Funk on June 1, 2013, and he began his 16-week training session on October 21. Today is his first day working as a certified officer.
Neligh Police Chief Mike Wright said Funk "is a great asset to the Neligh Police Department and the community because he is also a fireman and an EMT."
A Clearwater native, Funk graduated from Clearwater High School and attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk. He graduated in 2005 with an associate's degree in diesel technology. Funk worked in the diesel technology field for several years before pursuing a career in law enforcement.
"I joined the Clearwater Fire Department in 2007, and ever since then, I decided that I liked public safety work," he said. "I like serving the community."
Funk later earned his paramedic degree and began working for Midwest Medical Transport. He continues to work part-time for Midwest.
Now a Neligh resident, he is currently a member of the Neligh Fire Department and an EMT training officer for Antelope Memorial Hospital.
