Neligh-Oakdale was one of 21 bands to march in the annual Lion's Club Parade in Norfolk Saturday.
But only a select few were awarded trophies for their performances that day.
Neligh-Oakdale earned first place in Class C. The band is directed by Nate Metschke and the flag corps is guided by Tammy Marshall.
Osmond was named the outstanding band for all classes and placed first in Class D. Other first place trophies went to Norfolk High (class A); Norfolk Catholic (class B); and Pierce Junior High (junior high).
On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Neligh-Oakdale band will perform at the Harvest of Harmony Parade in Grand Island.
The band will depart from the school at 5:30 a.m. and will begin marching at 9:10 a.m. in Grand Island. Neligh-Oakdale will be 127th in the lineup.
Those who would like to watch the live broadcast on TV or online should be tuned in before 9:30 a.m., Metschke said. The parade will be shown in HD, starting at 8 a.m., with pre-parade coverage on NTV (ABC) and KFXL Fox Nebraska; and live-streamed online at www.nebraska.tv. Due to college football programming on ABC, that station will cut away from the parade at 11 a.m.
Awards will be handed out about 12:20 p.m. Metschke said they will eat lunch following the award ceremony and students are reminded to bring lunch money. They are expected to return to Neligh around 4 p.m.
